Few people realize the impact that high school dropouts have on a community’s economic, social, and civic health. Business owners and residents—in particular, those without school-aged children—may not be aware that they have much at stake in the success of their local high schools. Indeed, everyone—from car dealers and realtors to bank managers and local business owners—benefits when more students graduate from high school.

The Jackson Foundation
The Jackson Foundation is a private family foundation that seeks to enrich community life in the metro Richmond region. Mr. Asch’s keen interest and civic involvement in education, social services, historic preservation, cultural arts, the environment and public policy issues are reflected in the broad portfolio of nonprofit agencies that have been supported by the foundation. The vision of the foundation is to be a perpetual resource for leveraging opportunities that will strengthen and enrich our increasingly diverse community.

The Beirne Carter Foundation
The Beirne Carter Foundation has grant funding available for organizations that focus on health, education, local history, ecology, nature and youth

R.E.B Foundation
Each year since 1988, the R.E.B. Foundation has awarded about $100,000 to 15 public school teachers in the metro Richmond area. The R.E.B. Awards for Teaching Excellence fund professional development opportunities designed by the teachers themselves. The recipients are selected each year from approximately 150 elementary, middle and high school teachers who are nominated by students, parents, fellow teachers and the public at-large
In addition to funding the R.E.B. awards programs, this supporting organization makes grants to support other educational activities, as well as to cultural and social service programs.

Garland & Agnes Taylor Gray Foundation
The Gray Foundation carries out TCF's broad charitable purposes through the distribution of grants on a competitive and noncompetitive basis. Grantmaking primarily focuses on supporting cultural, historical and educational institutions that have a significant impact on the quality of life in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Priority is also given to programs and organizations in any field of charitable endeavor that substantially benefit the quality of life in southside communities of Petersburg, Waverly and surrounding areas.

Commonwealth Foundations
In 1996, The Community Foundation received the largest single gift in its history from Alice and Bill Goodwin, Chairman of CCA Industries, to create the Commonwealth Foundations. The Goodwins primarily focus their philanthropic endeavors within the Commonwealth of Virginia for the benefit of educational institutions and other nonprofits that broadly enhance the quality of life for area citizens. Notable beneficiaries of their generosity include their alma maters – UVA Darden School of Business and Mary Baldwin College – as well as VCU School of Engineering and the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. Through their leadership, the Goodwins hope to inspire and encourage gifts from others to further enhance our community.
