Nancy Stutts, Ph.D, Director

Dr. Stutts came to Virginia Commonwealth University in January 2007, and holds a faculty appointment in the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs, which includes teaching, research and serving as the director of ConnectRichmond. From 1998 to 2006, she was an associate faculty member in the University of Richmond’s Jepson School, where she taught courses in leadership studies related to philanthropy, the nonprofit sector and social justice. Her work with nonprofit organizations spans some 20 years, where she largely worked to plan and develop new initiatives, such as a study to address issues affecting children and families in poor, rural areas for the Pew Partnership for Civic Change and the research and development of an inter-generational immunization program in Texas, Mississippi and South Dakota for the Christian Children’s Fund.

ConnectRichmond, the research and communication network Dr. Stutts conceived, was launched in November, 2001 and she earned a Ph.D. in public policy from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002. Her research is community-based and related to her interest in philanthropy, community leadership and social change.
