We have had a number of inquiries regarding the possibility of creating "ConnectHamptonRoads" over the years. These have come, at various times, from two universities, two donors and a lot of nonprofits. A while back we started a list of nonprofits requesting a Connect, which numbered between 50 and 100 last time I looked. But nonprofits alone are probably enough--the best model for developing a Network requires a partnership among donors, nonprofits, sometimes government or business and, ideally, a library or college. It also requires that someone champion the effort locally to make it happen. As we look to expanding throughout Virginia's regions, we would love to work in Hampton Roads if there is collective will to develop it. Nancy Stutts |
