ConnectRichmond’s Online Forum is another way for people in our community to connect, share ideas and seek advice on a wide range of topics. Below are some frequently asked questions about the Online Forum.
How do I get started?
You must log in to your ConnectRichmond personal profile to post or reply to messages in the Online Forum. Click on “Login” in the top right corner of any page on the site and enter your username and password. Then, on the menu bar, navigate to “Tools,” and “Online Forum.”
What if I don’t have a ConnectRichmond Personal Profile?
If you don’t have a personal profile, it’s free and easy to create one. Click here for more information. Once you’ve logged on, select “Online Forum” under the “Tools” tab on the ConnectRichmond home page.
What are the types of topics for discussion?
The Online Forum allows our community to easily share facts, opinions and personal experiences to help others. However, questions that are “chatty” or attempt to engage others in personal communications may be removed.
How do I start a new topic?
After you link to the Online Forum (ConnectRichmond Home Page > Tools > Online Forum), select “Open Discussion”. You’ll see a box titled “Add New Topic”. After you select it, you can enter your topic in the “Subject” section. Below you’ll see a “Message” field where you can enter more information about your topic.
Can I get email notifications after people respond to my topic?
If you would like to get email notifications after people respond to your topic, please check the box next to “Click to subscribe to this forum” before you add a new topic.
How do I respond to a topic?
Once you’ve selected “Open Discussion” after logging in to ConnectRichmond, you can also respond to topics others have posted. To do so, simply click on the topic of interest, select the “Add Reply” link and type your reply in the “Message” field.
How can I follow responses to a topic that someone else posted?
After opening a topic that’s of interest to you, you may subscribe to this string by checking the box next to the words “Check this box to subscribe to this topic.” You will receive email notifications as people respond to the topic.
Can I personalize my Online Forum profile?
After you’ve logged on to ConnectRichmond and clicked on the Online Forum link, you can select the “MyProfile” link on the right-hand side in the grey bar. On this page, you can update a variety of personal information about yourself, including an “avatar” image and a signature.
What name will everyone see after I post a topic or a reply?
The community will see your ConnectRichmond personal profile username (this is the username that designated to sign in to ConnectRichmond). If you want to change your user name, you can do so by logging into your personal profile and changing it there.
How do I report an inappropriate response?
If you see a reply deemed irrelevant to the topic, threatening, abusive, involving profanity, or in violation of ConnectRichmond’s Online Forum Guidelines, please report the reply by clicking on the yellow “Alert” icon next to their response. ConnectRichmond staff will be notified and take appropriate action.
Is there a size limit for my Avatar image?
Your Avatar image (which is the image next everyone will see, next to your user name) must be resized to 100x100 pixels.
Is there an age restriction for the Online Forum?
ConnectRichmond is concerned about the safety and privacy of all its users, particularly children. For this reason, children under the age of 18 are prohibited from accessing the Online Forum.
Can I see just postings that I have not read?
Yes. Click on the “Not Read” link in the top left of the grey bar.
Can I sort postings by date?
Yes. After you’ve logged on to ConnectRichmond and clicked on the Online Forum link, you can select the “MyProfile” link on the right-hand side in the grey bar. Click on the “My Preferences” tab and select “Oldest first” or “Newest first”.
