| PRN Mentor | | | | UMFS (United Methodist Family Services) | UMFS is seeking a part time Mentor to provide one-on-one mentoring to youth referred to the Agency programs. Must be fluent in American Sign Language. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Provide one-on-one mentoring to youth to encourage their emotional and personal growth. Provide direct services to children as defined in the Service Plan, which include, but are not limited to teaching and modeling social skills, anger management, independent living skills and therapeutic recreation. Maintain an ongoing relationship with mentee and provide guidance and direction in a manner that develops and nurtures personal values and a solid system of communication. Maintain appropriate and professional boundaries with mentees, refrain from developing relationships outside the supportive role, and must never show favoritism or prejudice to a mentee. Maintain confidentiality concerning the identities of and situations surrounding our clients as set forth by UMFS standards. Provide academic help and support by tutoring or encouraging youth to stay in school. Provide help with evaluating educational choices, or directing them to educational resources. Coordinate & review mentoring activities with the family and referral source, and make adjustments to the activities plan as needed. Demonstrate positive professional, ethical and compassionate actions and values that offer mentees examples of success and happiness. Encourage youth to envision and strive for broader horizons and possibilities that may not be seen in their present environment. Work as part of a collaborative team of professionals to ensure that the mentee’s needs, as established by the Agency and referral source, are met while upholding standards set by UMFS policies and procedures. Interact positively and effectively with a variety of diverse groups and individuals, establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and clients of all cultures, races, ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and faiths or religions. Ensure appropriate provision of services for the mentee’s age-specific population, and representative of the Agency in a positive and loyal manner. Attend monthly supervision and ongoing training as directed by the Mentor Coordinator. Provide transportation for the youth during mentoring activities, including community outings. Work a flexible schedule that often includes evenings and weekends. Deliver and complete billable hours as assigned. Contact Mentor Coordinator immediately regarding emergencies, serious incidents, or barriers to service delivery. Complete and submit all client-related and administrative paperwork and documentation according to established time frames. EOE | EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High School Diploma with a minimum of 24 college credits with experience working with children and/or youth, or high school diploma with three years of experience working with children and/or youth in a structured environment. Must be fluent in American Sign Language.
