Special Olympics Virginia Area 6
Mission: Since 1976, Special Olympics Virginia has been providing children and adults with intellectual disabilities an opportunity to participate in organized sports and train for seasonal competitions. Through weekly practices, we help the athletes become more involved in our communities, build friendships, and reinforce life skills. Area 6, Metro Richmond’s local chapter, serves 740 active athletes from the surrounding counties. With the dedication of over 200 volunteers and coaches, they train for 16 sports and some compete on at the World Games.
